If you have frosted glass in your home, you'll know that while it is an aesthetically pleasing way to add a sense of privacy around your house, its complex features and special finishes make cleaning it quite the process.

Frosted glass is a type of glass manufactured to have a translucent and opaque, frost-like appearance. It is often used in homes — such as in bathrooms — or offices to add an element of privacy, as the glass is quite difficult to see through.

On the downside, frosted glass is made differently from other types of glass, making it a magnet for dust, dirt, and fingerprints and a chore to clean. However, continue reading to learn more about cleaning frosted glass using two simple methods.

How to Clean Frosted Glass

While there are a few ways to clean frosted glass, two of the easiest ways to restore the glass's spotless shine are to find the right glass cleaner or use a common kitchen ingredient — vinegar! Find out more about each method below:

1. Using the Right Glass Cleaner

When cleaning frosted glass, use an ammonia or alkaline-based glass cleaner as they are formulated with the ideal chemicals for cleaning this type of glass. Ammonia glass cleaners are preferred because they dry quicker than other cleaning products and are less likely to leave streaks.

However, if you can't get your hands on an ammonia-based glass cleaner, then an alkaline-based one is the next best thing. Thoroughly spray the glass with the ammonia or alkaline-based glass cleaner and then allow the product to sit—this will loosen any dirt or grime.

After waiting, use a paper towel to clean the frosted glass gently and in a circular motion to prevent streaking. Lastly, use a microfiber cloth to dry the glass and wipe away any residue.

2. Using Vinegar

Vinegar is an excellent solution for combating grease. For a homemade version of a glass cleaner suitable for frosted glass, mix one part white vinegar with four parts warm water in a spray bottle.

Spray the frosted glass with the vinegar mixture, wipe it down with a microfiber cloth, and allow it to dry.

Ideally, you should clean frosted glass once every few weeks to preserve the quality of the glass and for hygiene purposes. Keeping the surrounding areas clean also helps, as the dust and dirt easily collected on nearby surfaces can be transferred to the glass.
